Recognising God’s voice in your life

Recognising God’s voice in your life

A few months ago, while coming back from a 3 day seminar, my late night flight was delayed by an hour due to bad weather. Thankfully, the flight itself was smooth, and by about 2:30am, I was speeding home in a taxi after clearing through all airport formalities, thinking nothing could go wrong now. I was just looking forward to getting home to relax and rest. I realised the taxi driver was a bit chatty, talking about the weather and that sort of thing. I politely answered his questions, and explained where I was coming from and how my flight had been delayed due to bad weather. When we got to my apartment building, the taxi driver refused to come inside the gate saying he didn’t want to have to make some weird U-turn inside. I tried to explain how he could...

The Good Samaritan’s 12 Question Tool

The Good Samaritan’s 12 Question Tool

Although giving in the Church has been getting bad publicity lately due to the behaviour of a few preachers and tele-evangelists, it is still central to our faith. God demonstrated His love by giving. God gave His only Son, Jesus, to love us and reconcile us to Himself. Giving therefore is a great deal in Christianity. It is especially important when you would like to learn how to steward God’s love in the world. In this respect, what specific kind of giving fits into the framework of God’s love for us? Well, I am going to share with you a transformative perspective of giving that most people are not aware of on the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37). The parable is simple and straight forward. Three persons, a priest, a Levite, and a Samaritan...

How to receive God’s love

I grew up thinking that receiving God’s love was complicated requiring a special kind of person and lots of determination. I thought that only some type of people could receive God’s love, and only after they worked so hard at it or got some kind of a break. Like an angelic visitation. I have discovered since that receiving God’s love is the easiest thing to do. It is all about knowing how much God loves. I have written a book, Receiving God’s Love. In it, I go into greater detail about how to receive God’s love. But the basis is this: the Greatest Commandment in the Bible is “love God and love your neighbour.” But receiving God’s love depends on the fact that you are created in the image of God. Being created in...

Betrayal

Jeff had joined a company which distributed fertilizers on credit to poor farmers in one rural area eight years before. The scheme was such that Jeff’s company would be the preferential buyer of all the produce of farmers who used Jeff’s fertilizers on credit. And for the past seven years, the scheme had been successful, attracting new farmers. And everyone had been very diligent, selling their produce according to the contract. Jeff had grown to like this community very much. The farmers were very friendly. Jeff even found Warren, whom he now considered his best friend. But this year, this eighth year, when a record ninety five percent of farmers in the area had joined the scheme, things had gone terribly wrong, Jeff thought bitterly as he walked...

Hypocrisy Redefined

Hypocrisy Redefined

The hypocrisy that the Bible talks about is not about conscious pretending. That hypocrisy is really about doing something without understanding its ultimate purpose. Some people refer to hypocrisy as being asleep but simulating reality. The movie Matrix captures the concept very well. Are you here really or are you asleep in a shared dream simulating reality? Why are you doing what you are doing? Are you aware? Are you present? Or are you on autopilot, drifting through life completely controlled and helpless to wake up? Why are you a Christian for instance, really? What is your ultimate purpose for being a Christian? Are you scared of going to hell and are trying to avoid it? Or are you trying to ensure to go to heaven? Are you making a wise investment for your...

Faith in God – redefining Christianity in terms of faith

Faith in God – redefining Christianity in terms of faith

I am yet to encounter a person who is satisfied with their level of faith in God. Most Christians are still guessing and hoping and praying and trying anything to get their faith situation handled. And frankly, I am very concerned. The church is failing to recognise how important faith is and therefore is not doing enough to address this gap. At the moment, I am not hearing enough people in the church today speak compellingly about the sure path for developing effective faith in God.   Yet the Bible is clear: without faith, it is impossible to please God. Anything done without faith is sin. Abraham had faith in God and it was accredited to him as righteousness. Having faith is so central it is incredulous how the church is letting people keep guessing at it....
